Mike James is an enigma among musicians; a true "do-it-yourselfer" who writes, engineers and performs all instrumentation, and produces his music straight from the gut. His songs and lyrics are insightful, quirky, and offer many uncommon textures and twists.

His latest release "CINEMATIC" is the long awaited follow-up to the critically acclaimed "TINKLING BERNICE".

Playing guitar since the age of seven, Mike's had extensive experience in professional music production as well as live performance. He has shared the stage with such luminaries as flugelhorn great Louis Gaska (Santana) and organ virtuoso Joey DeFrancesco (Danny Gatton, John McLaughlin), and has opened for The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Ty Herndon, The Stylistics, Commander Cody, The Cherry Poppin' Daddies and Buddy Guy among others.

In 1986, Mike won four Colorado Composer Classic awards for his original works in the acoustic jazz genre. He spent a decade in Southern California recording and receiving generous airplay for his jazz-fusion-new age compositions, and was also lead guitar and vocals in the popular Country band "Suzie Salmon & Roughcut", winning four People's Choice Awards in the San Diego area, and taking "Band of the Year" honors in 1996.

  • "This guy sounds like Bruce Hornsby doing a pretty good imitation of Springsteen. Or is it Donald Fagen doing Sean Mullins? Its a bit freaky and so are his lyrics, but this is an incredibly well-crafted and seamlessly produced CD. James has a strong sense of whimsy and a funky rythmic style that is both fun and captivating." -Rob Dunne, Minor 7th Magazine, July-August, 2003

  • "Eclectic and original....a virtual grab-bag of funky, humorous, and deeply human compositions." -Michael Boge, KPND Radio

  • "His melodies are infectious, floating around my mind long after listening....take it home, turn it up."-Shelly Dunn, KGB Radio

Mike now resides in beautiful North Idaho, playing with various straight-ahead jazz combos, rock, fusion and bluegrass bands, and continues writing and recording jingles, soundtracks and his ongoing original, experimental music blend at his personal studio "Liquid Audio Sound Productions".
