"Notable guitarist" (NY Post) Debra DeSalvo played with legendary East Village punks False Prophets, rap-rockers Plastique, and Karyn Kuhl before starting her rock trio in Hoboken NJ in 2003.
Deb’s songwriting was soon noticed by film and TV producers. She licensed four songs to the documentary film STRIPPED: Exposing The Business Of Baring It All (Vanguard Cinema). Director Jill Morley asked Deb to create a theme for the movie, and Deb wrote the stripper anthem"Take It Off."
Deb starred with burlesque performer Jo Weldon and Strip City author Lily Burana in the "Take It Off" music video Morley directed for the STRIPPED DVD (Vanguard Cinema). STRIPPED won critical acclaim and was broadcast on Sundance Cable Channel, which used "Take It Off" for their "After Effects" interview with the director. Meanwhile, Deb licensed two songs to the VH1/CMT "Driven: Tim McGraw" episode.
Encouraged, Deb put a band together (John Hummel on drums and Duke on bass), and began performing at CBGB, Arlene's Grocery, and other NYC clubs. In 2003, she recorded the Electric Goddess EP (produced by Duke), which received great reviews (see Press below) and Internet radio airplay.
In June 2005 Deb licensed three songs from Electric Goddess to the award-winning feature film Getting Off, starring Christine Harnos (ER, Dazed and Confused), which airs on Showtime Sept 21, 2005. In July 2005, she recorded Hoboken Demo--three new songs that show her moving in a more classic rock direction.
Deb has written articles for Guitar, Guitar School, and Guitar World and an instructional column for Guitar.com. She recently finished her book The Language of the Blues: From Alcorub to Zuzu (Billboard Books, Jan. 2006). It includes interviews with many blues legends and a foreword by Dr. John. |
