From the darkness of Sabbath and Soundgarden to the sultry psychedelics of Jimi Hendrix and STP comes Chameleonize. Forging their path through the Toronto music scene over the last two years this fighting four piece have paid their dues. Independently promoting themselves with over 2000 posters per gig they have garnered interest from some of Toronto's underground elite. Because of their unique image Chameleonize is able to attract a diverse following:
Mike Samuels brings a wealth of experience to the skins. He is also quite the ladies man and puts Leon Phelps to shame! If John Bonham and Matt Sorum had a baby named William The Concreter it would sound like Mike.
Priscille Neyrand commands the bass. From the great nation of France she uses her class, savvy and wit to become the seductress of the group.
Steve Colucci "the Italian Stallion" is the youngest of the group, at 15 years of age he was already playing in a Van Halen tribute band. When asked about Steve's guitar playing Hollywood Jimmy J. from Psychotic 4 said "my penis just shrunk". Think a young Randy Rhodes meets Kim Thaill and you've got Steve Colluci.
Finally Darrell Shelley, is the groups front man. Darrell brings a plethora of experience and used to front east cost rockers Friction. He has three post secondary diplomas in music and was voted "most promising guitarist" at the Newfoundland and Labrador provincial battle of the bands in 2001. Darrell brings soaring vocals over memorable melodies to create a sound that is truly unique.
After turning down a record deal with Hamilton's Porcelain Records in 2006, they decided to go it alone and finance their own record. With two demo EPs behind them they approached local legend Ian Blurton front man of Canadian rock giants C'mon.
Darrell Shelley, Chameleonize's front man explains:
"We just to prove ourselves locally first. We want to build a national following one fan at a time. Have a real career something that is solid and not provoked by propaganda. We know what Ian has done with his previous bands 'Blurtonia' and 'Change Of Heart', and he is the man for the job."
Chameleonize are currently working on their full length debut with a release scheduled for June 2007. With over 30 local gigs behinds them, Chameleonize are poised to set out across the country this summer to promote their album and live show to new audiences. With an average age of 21 years old, this group is young and full of ripe potential. However, don't be fooled by youth, for their live performance will blow the mind of even the hardest critic and if you listen closely to the lyrics you might even find some truth.
