Bio / History

Playing for over 25 years in Toronto with a playlist of hundreds of original songs (and more covers then you can shake a stick at), the Wetband consists of four singer/songwriters who all take their turns at the mic. They play folk and rock music inspired by such artists as Steve Earle, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, the Beatles, the Band, the Stones, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Warren Zevon, Cracker, John Prine, Gram Parsons, and many others too numerous to mention. We have uploaded a sample of our original song repertoire (20 songs) to listen to or download. We will rotate these on a regular basis, so keep coming back to hear more. There will usually be 5 songs by each of our 4 singer/songwriters available. If you look under the Band Members page you can get more details on who wrote and sings which songs. All songs are Wetband originals. Enjoy!

If you would like to listen to some of our cover songs, then please visit our other site:

The truth is now out. And finally we are now announcing that The We Project is none other than Woody and Kenny (have a better look at the pictures). Our long time fans may have noticed that we have a name for just about every combination of our line up. For example, Willie and Jethro are the Twins Of Twang, Kenny and Jethro are Et Tu??, Kenny and Willie and Woody are Jethno, Woody and Jethro are Wojo, Kenny and Woody and Neil P. are The Westwind Trio, and just add Willie to get the Westwind Quartet. More than you needed to know, but anyway, if you want to hear more of The We Project, then check out their page.

Fellow songwriters, have you ever had a song completely misinterpreted or misconstrued. For example, you write a song about depression and everyone wonders why you're so depressed. Well Jethro has experiencd that so he wrote a song about it. That song is now available on JamWave for the first time. It is called 'It's Only A Song'. We hope you can give it a listen and remember that it doesn't really mean a damn thing.

June 25, 2010

We have just posted a Woody song called Midnight Rain which is from our CD 'Digging A Well'. This song was on JamWave once before but I think it was way back when we first joined, so it is probably new to most of you. To make room for another Woody song, we had to remove rinyville's great cover of Woody's song Don't Tell Me. That song is still available on rinyville's excellent covers page, and Woody's version is still on our player. Anyway, we hope you enjoy Midnight Rain.

June 28, 2010

Available again now on our page is a song by Willie called 'If I Could Believe'. Some people don't know quite how to take this song. But I think it is one of Willie's most powerful songs and I just love singing along with him on it. For anyone who grew up in an abusive, alcoholic family situation, you may realize that sometimes you have to make light of the times in order to survive with your sanity intact......Jethro

July 24, 2010

We have just reuploaded one of Kenny's older songs called 'All And Nothing'. It's been a while since this song was on JamWave, but it is one of Kenny's most requested songs.. We hope you give it a listen and enjoy it whether it is new to you or not.

July 28, 2010

We couldn't determine whose turn it was for the next song, so we uploaded a song on which we all take turns singing lead. The song is Till I Die which was written by Jethro. Some of you will remember this from before, but it will be new to many of you. Thanks for your continued support.

This week's Weekly Wednesday Wetband Wonder Award winner is the Sabine Bottom Blues Band from Greenville, Texas. This rockin' blues band are veterans of JamWave that you need to listen to if you haven't already. They keep the music going and play and sing the blues as well as anyone. Make sure you give them a listen.

 Run And Hide

Someone wants to tell me about their pain

And all I want to talk about is the Leafs again

When the conversation begins to turn psychological

I disappear into my own little world

Once more

My father screamed and my mother cried

And all I could do is run and hide

Damn it, why can’t I say what I feel

Damn it, why can’t I feel what I say

To you

Tell me your troubles and you know I’ll make a joke

If you need my help then for sure I’m mentally broke

And I hope that you realize that I really do care

I just don’t know what to do or say

At all

Don’t get me wrong I wanna spend time with you

You must know I cherish your company, I really do

It’s just when truth and reality start to get too near

I run to the fridge for cold dark beer

Again

You know that life can be full of so much fun

As long as you’re walking with your head in the sun

When the clouds accumulate and block the rays

I return inside where I feel so safe

All alone

I’m gonna change someday, I’m gonna change

Someday, someday,

I’m gonna change someday, I’m gonna change someday

Someday, someday.

 I'm Not Just A Number (I'm A Man)

I knew a model prisoner who rattled his chain

He’d emerge for exercise then head back in again

He cherished all his cigarettes and telephone calls

And never seemed to realize there weren’t any walls

I’m not just a number, I’m not just a number

I’m not just a number, I’m a man

I’m not just a number, I’m not just a number

I’m not just a number, I’m a man

Windows lined with merchandise that sparkle with gold

While outside men and women huddle hungry in the cold

We talk about inequities and juggle the blame

While everyone just waits around for something to change

I saw a perfect person once in a perfect dream

He shone down like some Jesus hooked up to a machine

His eyes reflected innocence, his smile endorsed your thoughts

You could build him from the pieces come in a flimsy cardboard box

One Of Them

An obscure day, and too much memory

I cannot paint the picture that I see

Drunk or sober, it doesn’t matter, let it go

Stones clatter down to the chasm far below

Endless crush of hard blank faces

Flowers gone from the hillside left no traces

I’ve kept one pressed in a book that time displaces oh oh oh oh

I saw her shadow in the door

Wondered if she’d just come back to take some more

She would not settle for any less

I was the only one who had to confess

Went on down by the river bed

Saw her there sleeping in my head

I try to remember what she said

Which curve in the path she took, and where it led

With each silent circle of the hawk

I remember standing there on the dock

There were so many riddles to unlock

I hear her voice; the hyperbolic paths I walk

Now wherever there are strangers, the ghost of her paces

In the shadows of Mars, clusters of stars, public places

There are strangers in my head now, strangers in my eyes

One of them could be her, could be me, in disguise.

DIGGING A WELL

All their lives, they've been digging a well
Digging a well, all their lives
Digging down further and further from the sun
Digging on down...to where the water is found
Breaking rock, cut-ting through clay
Then calling up: "Haul it all away"
Calling up: "Haul it all away"

The dry desert wind burns down your body & mind
Till you have to dig down
To where there's water to find
The world above so dead and dry
Just had to try, for the water of life
Just had to try, for the water of life

Cold below the desert and the burning sun
Heading on down...when the day's begun
Hauled up and out at the end of the day
Scrub off the dirt, be on your way
Scrub off the dirt, be on your way

All your lives, you've been digging a well
Digging a well, all your lives
Digging down further and further from the sun
Digging on down to where the water is found
Breaking rock, cut-ting through clay
Then calling up: "Haul it all away"
Calling up: "Haul it all away"

Digging and digging and digging so far down
So far down, I swear we'll never be found
One day, we'll just never be found
But one fine day they will find a hole
They'll find a Deep, Dark & Dangerous Hole
And the preacher will say we were...
Hellbound in Darkness
Well if that's so, come on, baby, let's go
Well if that's so, come on, baby, let's go

Cause all our lives, we've been digging a well
Digging a well, all our lives
Digging down further and further from the sun
Digging on down, to where the water is found
Breaking rock, cut-ting through clay
Then calling up: "Haul it all away"
Calling up: "Haul it all away"

Cause all our lives, we've been digging a well
Digging a well, all our lives
Digging down further and further from the sun
Digging on down, to where the water is found
Breaking rock, cut-ting through clay
Then calling up: "Haul it all away"
Calling up: "Haul it all away"
